HOW TO REGISTER A SALUKI WITH THE SPDBS
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTERING A SALUKI WITH THE SPDBS
The Society does not register Salukis that come through a rescue, including a Middle Eastern Rescue. These Salukis are eligible for an AKC PAL number. That program is found at this link.
The purpose of the Society is to register imported Middle Eastern Salukis and their descendants from countries that do not have a registry recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). To be eligible for registration, the Saluki must be evaluated as pure bred with ancestry traceable to its Middle Eastern country of origin. The Saluki must be resident in the USA.
A Saluki whelped in a country with an AKC recognized Saluki registry or FCI Saluki registry of any kind in place, with a pedigree of less than three recorded generations, must come to SPDBS through that registry regardless of its generational status. *
Imported Middle Eastern Salukis and their descendants, building a three-generation pedigree within KC, CKC or any FCI affiliate, or other internationally recognized dog registry, may be eligible for SPDBS registration. The SPDBS accepts pedigrees from the AKC and all the above-mentioned registries. Each Saluki, in any generation, seeking SPDBS registration, must go through the same critique evaluation procedure. (See SPDBS Generations Explained document for further information)
*Please note: if the Saluki is registered with an internationally recognized registry such as the United Kingdom’s Kennel Club (KC), Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) or any FCI affiliated registry that has reciprocity with AKC and has a 3 generation Saluki pedigree, it will NOT need the SPDBS registry as it should be eligible for AKC inclusion.
THE STEPS IN SPDBS REGISTRATION PROCESS
Request a Critique Registration Number (CRN) Application from the SPDBS Registrar.
Return the competed application to the registrar with the following supporting documents:
In the case of an import:
Copies of all supporting import documentation such as but not limited to: a Pet Passport, shipping documents, or vaccination records from country of origin or exporting country.
Copies of all foreign registration documents including a certified pedigree.
If a Saluki with an incomplete pedigree traces back to an acceptable country of origin and is imported to the US from a country with a Registry (United Kingdom’s Kennel Club [KC], Canadian Kennel Club [CKC] or any FCI affiliated registry) it must have registration through that Registry in order to be considered for SPDBS inclusion if whelped there.
A copy of the DNA profile through AKC must be on file with the Registrar on all imported Salukis before a CRN will be issued. (Please reference the SPDBS DNA policy for more information)
In the case of a parent(s) from another registry:
Parental DNA on file with registrar. (Please reference the SPDBS DNA policy for more information)
If a Saluki has a registered parent/s with a registering body other than SPDBS, please provide a copy of their three-generation certified pedigree. (Unknown is acceptable in a certified pedigree)
In the case of a Saluki bred within the SPDBS registry:
Parental DNA on file with registrar. (Please reference the SPDBS DNA policy for more information)
The following applies to all Salukis seeking registration with SPDBS:
- The registrar will assign the Case Number (CN) once the CRN request application is received with supporting documentation.
- The Registrar and the Registrar’s committee will locate proper critique judges and notify those seeking critiques of the location, date and time of all critiques.
- The Registrar and the Registrar’s committee will study each case to determine the final status of the Salukis once all documents are received and photos are submitted in the correct format. Providing the Registrar and committee considers the Saluki to be pure bred, and if all registration requirements are met, a Critique Registration Number (CRN) will be assigned and an official SPDBS Registration Certificate will be issued.
All dogs that undergo the critique procedure receive a SPDBS CCN whether or not they are considered to be a pure-bred Saluki. This information will be kept in the SPDBS archives. If a dog is considered not to be a pure-bred Saluki, it will be recorded with the word REJECTED as a suffix to its Critique Case Number (CCN XXX-XXX REJECTED).
Should any grievance occur due to the result of the registration process an appeal procedure is available. A letter clearly stating the grievance should be sent to the SPDBS Registrar. The SPDBS chairman will appoint a review panel to hear the grievance.
Documents needed by the Registrar include:
The original completed critique form. Three critiques by different judges are needed on each Saluki seeking a CRN number. Insure the forms are fully filled out, signed and dated.
Four views of the Saluki to include front, left side, right side, rear. Photos must be clear, show the Saluki in clear focus, show all markings and show the paws. Photos must be on photo quality paper, all four photos may be on one sheet. An example of a correct set of critique photographs is found here.
If a Saluki has a registered parent with a registering body other than SPDBS, please provide a copy of their three-generation certified pedigree. (Unknown is acceptable in a certified pedigree)
